Summer News for NW Documentary

1.SUMMER WORKSHOP
2.WESTON PROJECT
3.KUDOS

1>> SUMEMR WORKSHOP: Spend your summer making a documentary! Join the
popular NW Documentary 10-week program. Participants team up to write,
shoot, direct, and edit their own short documentaries. At the end, see your
work on the silver screen! NW Documentary is pleased to continue this
one-of-a-kind hands-on program, made possible by NW Documentary, Macforce,
Bobbyboy Films, and the Hollywood Theatre. Classes start Tuesday, June 28,
7pm. Get the details at:
http://www.nwdocumentary.org/workshop/docproduction.html

2>> BACK IN ACTION: NW Documentary launches its next major production. This
upcoming documentary will explore the life, love, and legacy of the famous
American photographer Edward Weston and his wife, model, and collaborator,
Charis Wilson. (http://www.nwdocumentary.org/docs/weston/weston.html) We
have been hard at work, and have made a trip to Santa Cruz, California, to
interview the indomitable Charis. The trip was made possible by the
generous support of Pro Photo Supply in Portland, and the Catlin Gabel
School (Charis, class of 1932!). Plus we thank the small circle of friends
and family who chipped in their hard-earned cash to help make this important
first trip possible. See all the great and generous folks at:
http://www.nwdocumentary.org/docs/weston/wsupporters.html
We're now thankful to the Oregon Council for the Humanities who has
stepped up and sponsored the next trip to California to record some more
original interviews and conduct the essential research of the story.
Stay tuned for the exciting results of this project in process. You can
help, too; visit http://www.nwdocumentary.org/docs/weston/wcontrib.html
There you'll find some of the things we're searching for to use in shooting,
such as a 1937 Ford Sedan. We're also on the lookout for a 1930s LC Smith
and Corona number 8 typewriter. Please let us know if you'd like to help be
a prop treasure hunter, a transcriber of original interviews, a scanner of
rare photos, or just want to chip some funds to help us keep going forward
on this project.

3>>KUDOS: We don't like to brag, but we're pleased as punch to be honored
for our hard work. As many of you know, our first full-length documentary,
SUN GU JA: A Century of Korean Pioneers was a true success, earning more
than a dozen national awards. Well, we've also been busy with smaller
projects. Our collaboration with Portland Habitat for Humanity, "The
Gardener's Garage," earned the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle, and our short
teamwork with local wetland preserve Jackson Bottom recently received two
first-place silver Telly Awards. Not bad at all. NW Documentary
productions are unique in that they team up professionals and volunteers,
interns and freelancers, and build bridges between community non-profits.
Both Sun Gu Ja and the anthology DVD "NW Documentary Workshops, Selected
Works, Vol. 1" are available to order. Check out:

Thanks for all the support of NW Documentary. We're honored you've all
helped us complete two exciting and creative years. We're soon to
celebrate, so stay tuned for the upcoming NW Documentary Anniversary party.
