Due to the popular success of our 4-part spring workshop with filmmaker
David Weissman, plans are currently being made to offer it again in fall.
Just an early alert - the last one went really well and filled up fast. The
expected dates are the first four Mondays of October, 7-9:30pm.
Here are the details:
"PRODUCING A FEATURE DOCUMENTARY: A first-hand perspective from filmmaker
DAVID WEISSMAN."
Join award-winning filmmaker David Weissman, producer and co-director of THE
COCKETTES, for a 4-part behind-the-scenes look at documentary production.
Using THE COCKETTES as a case study, the workshop will follow a documentary
from inception to theatrical release and international sales, covering such
topics as: research, fundraising, proposal writing, budgeting, legal and
business issues, production organizing, interviewing techniques, archival
materials, music licensing, festival strategy, PR, distribution, and more!
Open to anyone: from Sundance-aspiring filmmakers to documentary fans and
counterculture aficionados!
THE COCKETTES, a feature length documentary about San Francisco's legendary
theatrical troupe of hippies and drag queens, received the LA Film Critics
Award for Best Documentary of 2002. It premiered at Sundance and The Berlin
Film Festival in early 2002, was theatrically release in the US by Strand
Releasing and has been airing on Sundance Channel regularly for the last 18
months and has been licensed for distribution in the UK, Italy, and Japan.
David Weissman has been active in the indie film scene since the early
1980s. He was the first recipient of the Sundance Institute's Mark Silverman
Fellowship for New Producers in 1990, which included an internship on Joel
and Ethan Coen's BARTON FINK.
Monday Evenings, 7:00 - 9:30 pm October 3, 10, 17 and 24
